THE DIFFERENT NAMES
OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD
There has been some confusion on the names of the Spirit of God. When Jesus was being baptized in the river Jordan, by John the Baptist, He came straightway out of the water, the heavens were opened and the Spirit of God descended like a dove and lighting upon Him. In Matt. 3:16 it says the Spirit of God. Mark 1: 10 says the Spirit, Luke 3:22 says the Holy Ghost, John 1:32 says the Spirit, John 14:26 says the Comforter is the Holy Ghost.
Where is Jesus now? He is at the right hand of the Father: Rom. 8:34; Mark 16: 19.
But Jesus’ Spirit is here now, in the Holy Spirit. So, therefore there are different names for the same Spirit.

Zec. 4:6 - Then he answered and spoke unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of Hosts.
Gen. 1:1-2 - In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen. 2:7 - And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
Job 33:4 - The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
Ezekiel 37:1-10 - The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the Lord, and sat me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones.
And caused me to pass by them round about: and , behold, there were very many in the open valley, and, lo, they were very dry. And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest. Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.
Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones, behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:
And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.
And when I beheld, lo the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them. Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.
John 3:8 - The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is everyone that is born of the Spirit.
Acts 2:1-4 - And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Ezekiel 36:24-28 - For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
From the very beginning the Holy Spirit of God has been at work. Let’s look at some scripture of some men in the Old Testament that God had given the Holy Spirit to….

Gen. 41:38 - ( Joseph ) In whom the Spirit of God is?
Exo. 31:1-3 & 35:31 - ( Bezaleel ) And I have filled him with the Spirit of God. ( and hath filled him )
Num. 11: 25 – 30 ( The seventy elders ) And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders:
Num. 24:2 ( Balaam ) and the spirit of god came upon him.
Judges 3:9,10 - ( Othniel ) Caleb’s younger brother. And the spirit of the Lord came upon him,
Judges 6:34 – ( Gideon ) But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon.
Judges 11:29 - ( Jephthah ) Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah
Judges 13:24,25 – ( Samson ) And the Spirit of the Lord began to move him
Judges 14:6 – ( Samson ) And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, ( The young lion )
Judges 15:14 - ( Samson ) and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, ( slew a thousand men, with the jawbone )
1 Sam. 10:6 – ( Saul ) And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
1 Sam. 10:10 & 11: 16 - ( Saul ) and the Spirit of God came upon him,
1 Sam 16:12-14 - ( David ) and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. ( But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul )
Psalm 51:11 - ( David ) Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.
1 Sam. 19:20 - the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul,
1 Sam. 19:23-24 - ( Saul ) the Spirit of God was upon him also, ( And he stripped off his clothes also )
2 Sam. 23:2 – ( David ) The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
2 Kings 2:9 - And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of they spirit be upon me.
2 Chron. 15:1 - ( Azaria ) And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah
2 Chron. 24:20 - ( Zechariah ) And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah
Job 27:3 ( Job ) All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;
Job 32:8,18 - But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Job 33:4 – ( Job ) The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
Isaiah 11:1,2 - ( Jesus ) And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;
Isaiah 42:1 - Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
Isaiah 61:1,2 - The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God: to comfort all that mourn;

Luke 1:15 - ( John the Baptist ) and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
Luke 1:41 - ( Elisabeth ) And it came to pass, that when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb, and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
Luke 1:67-70 - ( Zacharias ) was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied.

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT IN JESUS’ LIFE:

Luke 4:1 - And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.
Luke 4:14 - And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about .
Luke 4:17-21 - And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias, And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it is written, THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HATH ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HATH SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PREACH DELIVERANCE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERING OF SIGHT OT THE BLIND, TO SE AT LIBERTY THEM THAT ARE BRUISED, TO PREACH TO ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.
And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all, them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
John 3:34 - For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
Heb. 9:14 - How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Rom. 1:4 - And declared to be the Son of God with Power, according to the spirit of Holiness, by the resurrection from the dead;
John 4:24 - God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 14:10 - Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
John 14:24 - He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
John 8:16 - And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
John 8:29 - And He that sent Me is with Me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please Him.

Acts 2:38,39 - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Acts 10:44-47 - While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Acts 19:1-7 - And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
And all the men were about twelve.
John 17:20-23 - Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them as thou hast loved me.
John 14:158-20,23 - If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you, Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

John 20:21,22 - Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even to send I you.
